VIRTUAL GARDEN an INTERACTIVE INSTALLATION by JEAN-MARC GAUTHIER

Jean-Marc Gauthier and Mark Young Stoeckle from The Barcode of Life project, The Rockefeller University, created a 3D interactive visualization tool showing world bird species in 27 orders. The visualization includes names, texts, pictures, 3D models and animations.

Keywords:

Descriptionl:
This installation is a three dimensional storyboard designed as a virtual pop up book. I was inspired by the storyboards of “Peter Pan”, the 1953 Disney movie which is often referenced as the first vision of a virtual world. Using motion capture, the visitor walks inside the pages of the book and interacts with the elements of the virtual world holding a sphere that tracks the right hand. This is an example of one-on-one physical interaction between a viewer and an interactive story.
